Do dogs go to Heaven?

012hemp“Be thou comforted little dog.
Thou too shall have a little golden tail.”*

There are those who protest that contrary to the movie “All Dogs Go to Heaven,” this is not the case. For those of us who disagree, or at the very least believe that attempting to answer this question is definitely above our pay grade, we may take comfort that we are in good company.
Billy Graham is quoted as saying: “God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in heaven. If that takes my dog being there, I believe he will be there.”

Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California, author of the Purpose Driven Life, has stated: “I can’t imagine God not allowing my dog into heaven.”

*Lest we think this sentiment was held only by modern day evangelists, consider this quote attributed to Martin Luther: “Be thou comforted little dog. Thou too shall have a little golden tail.”

Author Wendy Francisco, has shared her sentiment in a YouTube video:

Let’s let God decide the issue, shall we?

Woodrow Wilson’s observation was that “If your dog will not come after you having looked you
in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.” This mirrors the sentiment that
greets visitors to my own home, familiar enough to enter the back door into the laundry room.
There I have a wall saying: “Try to be the person your dog thinks you are.”

St Roch: Please bless us and help us live as authentically as those who often love us better than we know how to love ourselves.
