help

I have noticed that some of the prayers in our prayer circle are from people who, for a number of reasons, cannot visit a veterinary clinic.

The places listed below offer free advice, either online or by phone.  We don’t recommend or rate any of them, but encourage you to do so and we will be happy to publish them.

Just use the form at the bottom of the page.

Kindly help us pray for the speedy recovery of Johndee Grande from her illness. She is the dog of my husband’s nephew but since the latter can no longer care for her, we have decided to let her come live with us and for the past 6 years we are her pet parents. She has been sick for the past 4 months and we hope she will be totally cured soon. Thank you.

Please pray for my baby, Angel. She had a stroke last year, which left her with some mobility issues. She will be thirteen in January and has arthritis also, which makes things even harder for her. Recent bloodwork showed high alkaline phos and the vet thought she might have Cushings, but she didn’t show any signs. However, now, a little over a month later, she is starting to. I’m so very worried about her. She is literally my baby and I love her more than life! The thought of facing life without her is so terribly awful for me to even imagine! Please pray for my girl! She’s so meek and gentle and everyone loves her! Thank you for your prayers. God Bless you all!

Please pray for my 8year old chihuahua Benji. He has a grade 3 heart murmur. He came to me six years ago just three months after my beloved Barnaby died at 16 years.. Friends at church said he was Heaven sent, and I believe he was. Someone said that Barnaby “left him a note” because he took over where Barnaby left off I didn’t have to teach him anything. I am now disabled and need him more than ever. He has become a self taught hearing dog for me. I tell myself that if he was heaven sent then God will let him outlive me. I couldn’t cope without him . The heart diagnosis was such a shock.please please pray for healing for him. One of my previous dogs had distant spiritual healing from a Christian lady. We never met and when she died Pedro died soon after so I do believe healing does happen. Blessings upon you.

Please pray for my dog Treasure. Until yesterday, Treasure was a happy, outgoing, and extremely sweet natured Jack Russell Terrier. She spent a normal morning staying close to me. Then as the evening closed in, she started to tremble and shiver. She has not eaten since nor has she had a drink of water as far as I can tell. She has simply taken to her bed. I know that prayer can change any outcome. So please help me pray for her deliverance from this ailment that has plagued her for the last 24 hours. I don’t have pet insurance nor can I afford it. But I know that God can make a way out of no way. Please pray for her and me.

Please pray for my dog, Abby. She has a bulging back disc and I fear she will lose feeling in her back legs. What advice do you have?

    • Patricia October 9, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Dear Katie, please see the resources we’ve provided. There’s even a phone number you can call for help.

    • Jessica A November 30, 2014 at 4:47 am

Hi Katie– (I just joined this site and read your post)

Abby is in my prayers. Poor thing–a bulging disc is very painful. 🙁 I hope she is doing better.

As a therapist (I’m an OT….similar to a PT), the advice I would give you is to put her through “rehab” the same way/protocol that you or I would use. Essentially our spinal anatomy is similar/same concept behind treatment. I would advise that Abby does the same therapy that I would do with any human for a bulging disk.

      1. You actually want her to exercise her legs as much as she can as she can take pressure off the disc. When we strengthen other surrounding muscles, it takes over/reduces some of the daily work load off of the back (which level is the bulging disc? Lumbar?).

      2. She could get a cortisone shot (which usually works like a charm) to decrease inflammation around the disc. The inflammation make everything tight around the disc in the spine and causes pain and possibly weakness/numbness in her legs (that would be related to swelling in the spine). The “losing feeling” in her legs would come from excess inflammation around the disc. If the surrounding area around a bulging disc is really tight, that is when it has no other way to go but to push forward on the nerves/spinal cord.
Maybe call one of the advise vet phone #s and they could even suggest an OTC anti-inflammatory that a dog could take.

      3. Lastly (Abby will love this), when she is laying down near you, massage her shoulders with both hands. Massage in a small circular motion along the spine. Don’t apply deep pressure, but do give enough pressure that the muscles will relax. Massage S–L–O–W! A faster massage will make her muscles actually tighten and contract, not relax.

      4. Some times a back brace/binder/cast is prescribed and helps (both humans and dogs alike). It helps immobilize the disc from slipping in any direction that will apply.

      GOOD LUCK!
